In this workshop we explore the intimacy of the handmade and the beauty of transformation from photograph to art print. With a rustic pigment transfer print on the front and a handwritten note on the back, these whimsical art print have a multitude of uses. You might decide to create prints of images from your travels as a set of cards, or simply make art prints to frame and hang. This workshop will explore the versatile and wonderfully simple process of making one-off art prints from digital images. There’s no theme for this workshop, so gather around you the images which speak to your heart. You might use your own photography, images you have created or pictures you have found. Think about how your series will work together and what purpose your art will serve.
Pigment Transfer is a process of applying digital images to paper and other flat surfaces. We will guide you through the printmaking process showing you how to cut, layer and arrange your images to create a unique composition and then how applying solvent to your prints allows you to transfer them to paper surfaces. You will gain experience using the printing press and learn about collage and composition. By the end you will have your own limited edition print run of beautiful, personal works. You don’t need to bring anything special for the workshop, once you’ve selected your photographs, you simply need to bring yourself! If there are other things that might inspire you, bring them too, images of other artists work, and collected items such as objects you purchased or postcards you treasure all help to inspire your creative process, but as with all Beau Est Mien workshops, everything is included so you can just turn up and enjoy your workshop.
For this workshop, you will need to send us your images on a pdf document in advance so that we can print them fresh on the day! But don’t worry, your teacher will get in touch with you before the workshop with more details.
Pigment transfer is a great workshop for beginner printers. There is no drawing or free hand crafting involved, you work from your own photographs or images you have collected and you are taught step by step how to arrange and print your works. We can guarantee that you will feel relaxed and confident and that you will create artworks that feel truly personal and special.
